After-School Enrichment Program

The Big Brothers Big Sisters After-School Enrichment Program was developed in recognition of the fact that many children, especially those with limited English proficiency, are falling behind in their studies, and ultimately dropping out of school. Program evaluation has shown that with additional one-to-one support and academic assistance provided by our volunteer mentors, participating children develop greater interest in school, improve their school performance and are more likely to graduate.

Please bring your special skills, talents and personality to the program! If you had difficulty in school or overcame language barriers, you can provide unique insight.

The program is offered at two housing complexes in Watsonville. Mentors assist children by tutoring them in the areas of math, science, social studies and writing. The program includes guest speakers on a regular basis to address topics important to the students' social, academic and leadership development.

Our minimum age requirement to volunteer for this program is 16 years of age. We have two programs, one is held on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30pm and the other is held Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30pm. Our volunteers commit to one of the two locations for a minimum of 6 months.
